Each year, the SAJA Reporting Fellowships allow journalists to cover stories that might not otherwise get written or photographed in South Asia. While this year's applicants are still under review, here are some images and links from past winners. The photograph featured here is from a story financed by the SRF about the Gurkhas, soldiers from Nepal, who are fighting along with British forces in Afghanistan, taken by Anup Kaphle, who is originally from Nepal and traveled to Afghanistan earlier this year with reporter Graeme Wood of The Atlantic for the story. Wood and Kaphle shadowed the Nepali Gurkha regiment, which has fought for the British since 1815. To see a video of their story, go to
