The Atlantic has, for more than 160 years, advanced ideas that matter and sparked global conversation on the most important issues of our time. We aim to bring clarity and original thinking to questions of consequence, on topics ranging from politics, the economy, and global affairs to technology, science, and culture. As the third-longest-running magazine in America, we find ourselves at a remarkable moment: one of both continuation and transformation, of upholding our legacy while continuously reinventing ourselves for the future.
We are seeking an experienced Product Manager to lead the development of The Atlantic’s innovative adtech system into a SaaS product. We believe that our technology is groundbreaking and valuable to any publication, because we’ve seen it improve our programmatic CPMs by 50%. We also believe that we can find a way to allow smaller publications in particular to benefit more from advertising while simultaneously improving the reader experience through high quality, unobtrusive, and smartly targeted programmatic and direct advertising. This product manager should have publishing or ad tech experience, be eager to become an expert on the complexity and nuances of ad targeting logic, and be excited to champion and develop a nascent technology by working closely with beta partners. In this role, you will be responsible for shaping the strategy of our SaaS product and executing the launch with our first beta partner. You will work closely with a team of engineers, and our revenue operations team. Upon the successful completion of a pilot, you will continue to grow this team within The Atlantic, and possibly other future SaaS businesses.
As Senior Product Manager, Ad Tech/SaaS, you will:
Serve as the Product Owner and lead for this product, turning it from an in-house product to a tool that is useful for other teams
Define, recruit and grow a team
Work with engineering and rev ops to prioritize and execute features for primary launch, while crafting a long term strategy for future development
Vet and talk to potential beta partners as the product matures
Directly interact with clients at the pilot partner as we build an account management team
Conduct market research and talk to clients to continue ideating and iterating
Who Should Apply?
We are looking for someone who has experience in the SaaS world, and ideally with experience in ad tech and media. Above all, we are looking for someone with a deep passion for the future of journalism.
You should have:
Ability to turn a vision into a concrete and actionable plan, then deliver on that plan
An entrepreneurial and inventive approach to solving problems
The ability to connect business strategies, customer needs, and available technologies to deliver best-in-class products
The ability to forge a compromise between clients, and engineers
Willingness to roll up your sleeves to be part of a new team building an experimental product
A high degree of empathy and a gift for listening—to internal partners and to users
Strong written and communication skills, including between technical and non-technical team members and stakeholders
A talent for navigating engineering, design, and business conversations
