SAJA Mentorship Program 2021

SAJA is pleased to launch a new mentorship program this spring to help members navigate their career in journalism! The aim is to match mentors and mentees to build a long-term, sustainable professional relationships that benefit both parties. To start off this program, we’re going to focus on picking five mentors and five mentees for the first year.

How this will work

Mentors and mentees will each fill out a form to help create the pairings based on similarity of career interest. Ideally -- mentors and mentees will have a one-hour call each month, a few email check ins during the month and providing feedback on their work (the frequency depends on their availability). SAJA will make the five matches based on the responses to the forms.

What happens after they’re matched?

After they’re matched, a SAJA board member will act as a host -- a glue -- to bring all matches together for the first few sessions. Mentors can help with connecting mentees with other experts in the industry, with advice on their stories, with feedback about job applications, or just to chat and brainstorm ideas and help them learn.

How to sign up

The deadline for prospective mentors and mentees to fill out the form is April 16, and we aim to host the first sessions at the beginning of May.

More dates and details to follow! Meanwhile, if you have any questions, send them our way!
