    Job Description:

STAT, a leading health and medicine publication, is looking for a smart, hard-driving reporter to help expand our coverage of cancer. This reporter would delve into the latest scientific findings related to cancer emerging from academic labs, as well as the patient experience. The reporter would help track and explain the next wave of immunotherapies, targeted molecular treatments, and other technologies that are revolutionizing cancer care. And this person would cover the big changes under way in how cancer clinical trials are run, how the FDA reviews experimental cancer therapies, and how these drugs will be paid for. All of this is essential reading for our audience.

    Responsibilities:

    • Produce regular coverage each week, including for our STAT + readers, as well as scoops and longer-range enterprise stories and profiles.

    • Collaborate with colleagues on stories, newsletter items, and events. This reporter would work closely with colleagues covering drug development, biotech, and other related areas.

    • Learn on the job, and become an in-house authority on everything cancer for STAT.

    Qualifications:

    • We are looking for an early- to mid-career reporter who has experience covering health or science, if not cancer specifically.

    • We are looking for a dogged, prolific reporter who knows how to deliver scoops and can write lucidly.

    • We prefer if you're based at our Boston headquarters but we will consider candidates based elsewhere.

    • A willingness to adapt and be audience focused, with a curious mindset and a commitment to creating an inclusive work environment

STAT prides itself on its culture, so collaborative spirit, flexibility, and willingness to innovate are essential. STAT is affiliated with Boston Globe Media but operates independently from The Boston Globe.

Candidates can apply on the Boston Globe Media careers page with a resume and cover letter addressed to STAT Editors. The cover letter is required, as are links to 3 to 5 stories.
