    POSITION OVERVIEW:
    BNA, an independent publisher of legal, regulatory, and business information, seeks a Reporter I/ Editorial Assistant II to perform general assignment and beat reporting for Daily Environment Report; research and write news stories and features for assigned publication(s); and provide a variety of editorial support tasks for assigned publication(s), including filing and light office duty, ordering supplies, and maintaining inventory. Work typically includes routine reporting assignments and backup for senior reporters.


    RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Perform general assignments and beat reporting; fill in for reporters as needed; report, research, and write news stories for assigned publication(s); develop and maintain sources in the government and private sector; maintain awareness of current issues and developments related to assigned beat(s) and publication(s); coordinate activities with other BNA reporters and editors who cover related beats; participate in production of unit’s publication(s); proofread copy and make corrections using publishing system; research information in order to verify and/or resolve questionable material; provide editorial and administrative support as needed (e.g., maintain office files, create URLs for BNA-generated Web site documents, prepare electronic files of regulatory information, such as the daily regulatory agenda from Federal Register notices); participate in special projects; and perform other duties as assigned.


    REQUIREMENTS:
    1+ year of experience in journalism; strong written and verbal skills, including thorough knowledge of business English, vocabulary, punctuation, grammar, and spelling; basic knowledge of journalism principles and techniques; ability to report and write news stories under deadlines; knowledge of federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial processes; ability to attend outside meetings, hearings, news, events, etc., and to report on them clearly and accurately; accurate keyboarding (45 wpm); ability to use BNA publishing systems effectively with BNA training; excellent proofreading skills; demonstrated knowledge of office procedures; ability to interact effectively with professional and technical staff throughout BNA; and excellent organizational skills. Bachelor’s with coursework in English, journalism, or subjects related to assigned publication(s).


    Candidates may be required to pass a test for this position.
