Qualifications: Four year college degree or equivalent experience. 5 years full time news writing or editing, the ability to handle breaking news under heavy deadline pressure and a proven understanding of U.S. domestic and International issues. Must have newspaper, wire service or online copy editing background. Broadcasting or multimedia experience is a plus. Ease of use with computer applications necessary. Demonstrated editing skills (checking language, accuracy, balance, sensitivity). Leadership (works effectively with writers, content editors). Effective speed to keep up with demanding workload. Flexibility (can deal with rapid changes in news, adapt to breaking news, handle several tasks at once). Positive, collaborative attitude (eager, energetic, team-oriented).

Duties: Seasoned journalist qualified to do primary reporting by phone, process bureau and field reports and write or copy edit news copy on very tight deadlines suitable for broadcast and online distribution. Primary focus is Domestic breaking news, updating and fleshing out the big stories of the day, with the ability to effectively cover International stories as needed. Other duties include monitoring and reporting on live news events, working with news sources and reporters over the phone, editing, rewriting or condensing, and vetting bureau and reporter entries in the CNN Wire and checking out news tips from affiliate desk editors and others. Credentials include experience covering Domestic, political and/or economic news, crime and court reporting and/or a strong interest and knowledge of International issues. Accuracy is paramount; writing speed, versatility and flexibility also are important attributes. The CNN Wire is a 24 hour/7 day a week operation.
