Please visit: http://www.kff.org/about/graphics_data_mp.cfm for more information on this position.

    LOCATION:  Menlo Park, CA
STATUS:  Full-time term position through 2013
    PROGRAM AREA: Communications

    POSITION SUMMARY:

The Kaiser Family Foundation, a leader in health policy analysis, health journalism and communication, is dedicated to filling the need for trusted, independent information on the major health issues facing our nation and its people.  Kaiser is a non-profit, private operating foundation focusing on the major health care issues facing the U.S., as well as the U.S. role in global health policy.

The Foundation is seeking a designer/programmer/editor to lead a newly established graphics department, which will produce maps, diagrams and data visualizations – both static and interactive – for all Foundation websites and products, including kff.org and kaiserhealthnews.org, the Foundation’s editorially independent health policy news service.

Candidates should excel at finding new and innovative approaches to blending design with data and interactivity to produce multimedia products that visually complement the Foundation’s data, analysis, and journalism.  Candidates will be expected to work with researchers and journalists to translate large amounts of data into simple, intuitive user-friendly designs with superior online user experience in mind.  Applicants should have a proven track record in the conception, design and execution of features like interactive maps and charts as well as the pages that display them.  Candidates should demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively, as this position will require close coordination with analysts, journalists, and communications staff in both our Menlo Park and Washington, DC offices.

The Graphics / Data Visualization Senior Editor will report to the Foundation's Vice President for Communications based in its Menlo Park headquarters in the Office of the President and will work closely with other communications, policy, and reporting staff.  The successful candidate will thrive in a team environment and will be expected to take a leadership role in data visualization across all of the Foundation’s programs.  The Senior Editor will be tasked with recruiting and hiring a deputy editor / programmer to be part of the graphics unit, and will help manage the Foundation’s contracting for larger data visualization projects that require working with external vendors.  The Senior Editor will also participate in a comprehensive redesign of kff.org, which is already underway and which will be built with the products of this new graphics unit in mind.
