SAJA Sponsors two members
Executive Leadership Program

We’re proud to announce that SAJA is sponsoring two members, Sonia Paul and Anisa Khalifa, to attend the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) Executive Leadership Program this year!

February Iftar dinner in Chicago

We’ve had an exciting last few weeks. Last month we hosted a beautiful Iftar dinner in Chicago with students from Northwestern University's  Medill School of Journalism. Thank you to Dean Charles Whitaker who sponsored four students to attend the dinner! Check out a photo of the event below!

"The Iftar captured the spirit with which SAJA has operated for three decades: open, inclusive, welcoming — traits that are desperately missing in our national conversation, and even in some newsrooms. It also showcased what makes SAJA special: the ability to work across generations," Sree Sreenivasan, co-founder and former president of SAJA said.

We also recognize that right now a lot of our amazing journalists and allies are working tirelessly to cover the unfolding conflict in the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region. The Arab and Middle East Journalist Association (AMEJA) has put out excellent reporting guides on how to ethically and accurately report on Iran and Lebanon

This month, SAJA has also continued to work with partner institutions to stand in support of press freedoms for our members and others from diverse backgrounds.

Below are some of the latest events, job listings, listservs and fellowships to put on your radar, and some shout outs.

National Conference to Address Restoring Trust in Journalism

An urgent national conference to address restoring trust in American journalism is to be held at the University of Mississippi in mid-April. The event, titled “How the News Media Can Regain Public Trust,” will be hosted by the Jordan Center for Journalism Advocacy and Innovation, located at the University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media in Oxford. Registration for the event, which will be free for journalists, academics, civic leaders and students will go online in early March. For more  information, contact Steven Herman at the Jordan Center: StevenH@OleMiss.edu, 202-643-0510.
