SAJA Student Membership

Students may apply for membership by going to our membership application.  Membership is just $20 a year.

SAJA student members enjoy many of the benefits of full membership at a discounted rate. Many of our 150 student members receive career mentorship, student scholarships and are eligible for the annual SAJA Journalism Awards.

SAJA student membership is open only to those studying in the United States and Canada. Student members need to demonstrate an interest in the field, but do not have to be full time journalists. Almost all of our student members are either enrolled in graduate, undergraduate or high school journalism programs, work for the school media or have held (or are applying for) internship positions.

Please do not hesitate to contact us. We are committed to increasing the number of South Asian student journalists and increasing the number of South Asians who enter the profession.

Career Services

Experienced SAJA members, including journalists from a range of news outlets, provide mentorship, career counseling and help with internships/job searches.

SAJA hosts an annual job fair and offers other career development opportunities at its annual convention.

Student members also receive select e-mail notices of journalism events and opportunities to pitch and cover events for SAJAforum.org under the direction of editors.

Awards

As part of the annual SAJA Journalism Awards, we present student awards with cash prizes.

Scholarships

Since 2010, SAJA has awarded $20,000 in student scholarships each year.

Chapters

A growing number of colleges have SAJA chapters. We can help you start one at your school and find speakers or put together events.
