On October 5th, 2013 please join us for our annual awards dinner and gala at The Yale Club as we honor and recognize excellence in journalism coverage of South Asia as well as outstanding reporting by South Asian journalists.

This will be a fantastic opportunity to network with fellow SAJA members, other reporters, editors and producers from reputable media outlets such as: CNN, CBS News, Al Jazeera America, Dow Jones/The Wall Street Journal, ESPN, NBC News, and The New York Times to name a few!


ESPN's Kevin Negandhi and Emmy award-winning journalist Soledad O'Brien will be joining SAJA for their annual Awards Dinner and Gala

SAJA friend and supporter Soledad O'Brien will be our keynote speaker for the evening. Emmy-award winning O'Brien recently signed on with Al Jazeera America's evening news program America Tonight as a special correspondent. Kevin Negandhi of ESPN's SportsCenter, and a SAJA friend and member, will be the emcee for the evening.

SAJA will be hosting a special, free lecture and exhibit with SAJA friend and artist, Imran Qureshi, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Get a chance to walk through the Islamic Art Exhibit where Qureshi's current gallery of Indian Moghul artwork is on display. Then mingle and network with the artist himself and fellow SAJA members at the museum's beautiful rooftop garden.

This is an exclusive event for SAJA members.

SAJA & SLWB Press Freedom Lecture

SAJA's Toronto group and Sri Lankans Without Borders present the Lasantha Wickrematunge Memorial Lecture in support of press freedom and human rights.

Lasantha Wickrematunge was the founder and editor of Sri Lanka's Sunday Leader newspaper. Wickrematunge was known to be extreamely vocal about government corruption, and was gunned down on January 8, 2009 in a Colombo suburb.

The program will consist of Q&A's, discussions and a reception with: Sonali Samrasinghe, J.S. Tissainayagam, Stewart Bell, Sanjana Hattotuwa and more!

Here's a chance to get an exclusive behind the scenes look at CBS News!

Join fellow SAJA members as CBS News producers will give us a newsroom tour around the CBS studios. This event is free for SAJA members!

We will then watch the live national newscast of "CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley" from the control room and studio.
