    Message # 10563920

The Senior Editor, Weekends, is a team leader and editorial change agent within KQED, working in multi-platform media to reach key new audiences. KQED’s weekend coverage is a digital-, engagement-, and audience-forward operation. The editor leads production of 10+ radio newscasts daily and oversees the process for getting material in place for news coverage in the coming week. The right candidate will have experience assigning and editing stories throughout the day for newscasts and other radio programs and assigning and editing of news content for the web and mobile.

The Senior Editor, Weekends, is a full-time staff position, and manager of the small but mighty weekend news team. This position also will direct and manage the producer for KQED’s opinion and commentary unit, Perspectives.

This editor reports to the Managing Editor, Digital News, and manages a team of an anchor/reporter, an editor/anchor, two weekend reporters, two digital producers and one Perspectives producer. Much of the teams’ work will be focused on engagement, social and digital coverage—posting breaking news online and taking our content to new audiences and communities.

This editor is also part of the editorial team that develops and executes KQED’s coverage strategy for radio, web, mobile and social media platforms.

One of our core beliefs at KQED is that we are better together, and that we commit to grow and improve each day and hold ourselves accountable when we fall short of that commitment. And when we do not stick to our values, our actions will disproportionately hurt the most marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous, and all people of color, people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ people. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. We strongly encourage applicants from all marginalized communities.
