    Join Our Team: Digital Editor

VTDigger is seeking to fill one of the most essential positions in its newsroom: digital editor.

This is a highly varied job that involves editing, producing, packaging and promoting the nonprofit news organization’s statewide journalism. It requires working closely with every member of the news team to publish timely, accurate and rich stories — as well as engaging with VTDigger’s audience to share the organization’s work and solicit story ideas and feedback.

The digital editor is charged with managing VTDigger’s existing social media accounts and considering new platforms to reach new readers; ensuring that stories have strong visual and multimedia components; tracking analytics to inform newsroom processes; contributing to newsletter production; and maintaining the homepage and key landing pages.

Depending on the strengths and interests of the occupant, the digital editor could play a leading role in expanding VTDigger’s audio and video offerings; enhancing its public engagement strategies; or reshaping its opinion section. This is a dynamic news organization that is always striving to innovate. Applicants should explain what they would bring to the role — and how they could improve VTDigger’s digital offerings.

    Location: Montpelier, Vermont

    Start date: February/March 2023

Compensation: $50,000-$60,000. VTDigger offers a highly competitive benefits package, which includes five weeks of paid time off to be used for sickness or vacation and eight weeks of nearly fully paid parental leave. This position is represented by the VTDigger Guild.

How to apply: Using this form, please upload a resume and a cover letter addressing why you want to work for VTDigger and why you’re the right fit for this job. The deadline to apply is Monday, Feb. 6, 2023, at noon.

Please note: We recognize there are great candidates who may not think they’re the right fit for this job or who have important skills and experiences we haven’t considered. If that sounds like you, don’t hesitate to apply and tell us more about yourself. VTDigger is committed to improving, in part by better reflecting the communities we serve. We are dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace for all people. We especially encourage members of communities that are traditionally underrepresented and misrepresented in media to apply to join our team, including those who are Black, Indigenous or people of color; women; LGBTQ+ people; and people with disabilities.
