    New York Public Radio seeks a publicist who will work with the Senior Director of Publicity to develop and execute PR strategies and campaigns to reach consumer, trade and online audiences. 

    New York Public Radio is comprised of WNYC, the most-listened to public radio station in the country; WQXR, New York City’s sole 24/7 classical music station; The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space, a street-level live event venue; and New Jersey Public Radio, a network of stations that extend WNYC’s reach more deeply into New Jersey. WNYC is a leading producer of public radio programs and podcasts such as The Brian Lehrer Show, Radiolab, On the Media, Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen, The Leonard Lopate Show, Freakonomics Radio with Stephen Dubner, and Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin.

    The publicist will generate maximum, positive press across all of NYPR’s brands. 

    Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Publicize WNYC and WQXR original on-air and online news, culture and music content to print, broadcast, and online press through creative pitches and press releases
    • Publicize events & series produced for The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space to print, broadcast, and online press
    • Cultivate relationships with key consumer, trade, online and community press
    • Identify pressworthy radio and online content for relevant, targeted blogger outreach
    • Generate press materials including press releases, pitch letters, bios, and more
    • Actively contribute to creative strategy for larger programming initiatives and campaigns
    • Pitch and oversee interviews with WNYC and WQXR hosts
    • Publicize NYPR’s Community Engagement efforts to connect with new and diverse audiences
    • Screen journalists and media outlets through research and reading past work
    • Draft departmental reports for the NYPR Board of Trustees
    • Maintain press lists and seek out new contacts
    • Oversee all filming requests by outside producers
    • Represent NYPR and the PR department with impeccable integrity and professionalism
    • Maintain discretion and confidentiality of information, internally and externally
    • Deliver accurate, thorough and timely results in a deadline driven environment
    • Track press coverage and maintain press clippings database
    • Manage interns and volunteers on publicity projects
    • Work on other special projects and duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • 2-4 years of PR experience required
    • Bachelor’s Degree required
    • Track record of securing positive press coverage
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
    • Sound organizational skills, with great attention to detail
    • Ability to effectively manage competing priorities and multiple piece/projects
    • Ability to easily shift gears between independent and collaborative work and demonstrated the intellectual and emotional intelligence to navigate a deadline-drive environment
    • Background in news field helpful
    • This position requires use of a computer, telephone, and other office and broadcast equipment; ability to communicate through a variety of methods; requires ability to work extended hours as needed
    • Must be able to work remotely on occasion
    • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends
