    Full-time

    NYPR seeks a skilled, highly motivated Senior Editor for “Studio 360 with Kurt Andersen,” the weekly national program and podcast about creativity, pop culture, ideas, and the arts, co-produced by WNYC and Public Radio International. 

    We seek a sharp, fresh, confident thinker to help steer Studio 360’s coverage of cultural trends and news, and artists and makers in every cultural realm.  Reporting to the Executive Producer and working closely with the EP and Host, the Senior Editor is one of the three leaders of the Studio 360 team, setting the editorial direction of the program, associated podcasts and website; choosing guests and stories and editing stories; guiding the generation of ideas and steering their development and execution; managing three Associate Producers and freelance producers; recruiting and developing new contributors; and overseeing scripts and research. In other words, the Senior Editor is responsible for ensuring that all Studio 360 content is world-class -- smart, enterprising, surprising, distinctive.

    The successful candidate will be a superb and confident writer and editor, as well as a passionate, deeply informed, wide-ranging consumer of and thinker about the arts, entertainment, culture and ideas. She or he will also have a sense of humor and thrive on leading collegial intellectual give-and-take. 

    Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Oversee editorial planning of a weekly national arts program and daily website and social media consistent with the mission and goals for the show; manage staff and freelancer assignments.
    • Lead development of ideas for Studio 360, including interviews, reported stories, listener engagement projects, themed shows, and special series; run weekly editorial meeting.
    • Edit (and often draft) Host scripts; edit producers' work on interviews, stories, and other content; edit Sideshow and other associated podcasts as necessary.
    • Direct outreach to contributors; edit contributor stories.
    • Work closely with Executive Producer in story selection and cutting shows to time; perform final show QC. 
    • Edit (and occasionally write) text for studio360.org
    • Edit outgoing communications (newsletter, DACS, future listings, etc.)
    • Write program treatments for grant submissions and reports, as needed.
    • Supervise staff and their ongoing professional development.
    • Perform production tasks including writing, editing, reporting, booking, and arranging logistics, as needed.
    • Work on other special projects and duties.
    • Some administrative tasks, as needed

     Qualifications:

    • At least seven years’ experience in fast-paced, idea-driven media environments
    • Impeccable journalistic integrity, rigor and editorial judgment; impeccable attention to detail
    • Demonstrated engagement with diverse aspects of contemporary culture, among them movies, music, books, theater, fine art, comedy, dance, television, online, gaming, design, and architecture.
      Superb writing and editing skills showing originality and humor; experience writing and editing for broadcast or performance strongly preferred
    • Experience working with freelancers in an editorial capacity
    • Experience working with talent
    • Proficiency with audio editing (preferably using ProTools) or comparable video software
    • Creative problem-solving in shaping and editing stories and interviews
    • Familiarity with content management systems
    • Scrupulous organizational skills
    • Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
    • Ability to manage several projects concurrently; effective time-management and ability to produce excellent work on deadline
    • Ability to collaborate closely and cheerfully with others and thrive in a team environment
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
