    Department Overview

    Innovation Hub with Kara Miller is a national weekly public radio program and podcast produced by WGBH Radio in Boston and distributed by Public Radio International. It airs on more than 50 radio stations nationwide and has an active podcast presence.

    Position Overview

    The program is seeking a creative, energetic, and experienced Supervising Senior Producer. This individual will coordinate and participate in the planning, development, recording, editing, and completion of Innovation Hub’s broadcast and podcast episodes. Reporting to the program’s host and to WGBH’s Executive Producer/Editor for radio, the Supervising Senior Producer will shape and supervise Innovation Hub’s weekly production process, directly supervise 2 additional radio professionals with editorial, production, and technical duties and also interface with the engineering staff to produce each week’s program. The Supervising Senior Producer is responsible for the overall approach of the show, story ideas, the use of freelance pieces and all decision-making related to the focus and production of weekly broadcast and podcast episodes. This person will collaborate with the program’s host and the Executive P/Editor to coordinate the long-term development of the program, helping to frame broadcast and digital distribution strategies as well as maintaining relationships with PRI and individual stations. S/he participates in generating and advancing overall goals for the program and helps to formulate and manage the show's annual budget.

    Applicants should have a thorough working knowledge of radio production techniques and technologies; excellent conceptual, research, writing, and organizational skills; experience in presenting science, technical, cultural, financial and social science material in a highly informative and creative manner for general radio audiences. The individual should also have a demonstrated capacity for team building and management.

    Skills Required

    This position requires news literacy, excellent writing skills as well as strong social media knowledge and practices. It must be assured that the individual is a motivated self-starter and is able to motivate and maintain high morale among a small “start-up” staff.

    • Awareness and knowledge of public media and new competitors offering high quality narrative audio expressions.
    • Excellent audio editing skills.
    • The ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
    • Ability to convey vision to host, staff, technical support teams as well as to the network distributor.
    • The ability to shape a program to its mission, adjust as required and maintain a consistent and high quality presentation and production cycle for affiliate stations.
    • Be able to identify and generate ideas for interview subjects, host segments, reported stories, listener engagement projects, recurring features, and themed shows.
    • Identify opportunities to commission freelance reporters and to involve affiliate station talent.
    • Be able to assist support staff in developing thoughtful and surprising host ledes and questions; using clips and other materials creatively.
    • Write, produce and oversee multimedia content for Innovation Hub website, including several blog posts a week (may also be for outside media partners).

    Prior production experience in the Radio field. Experience in management or Producer-level roles preferred.

    Educational Requirements

    Bachelor’s degree required.
