     Senior Producer, Note to Self

     

    NYPR seeks a higly creative Senior Producer for Note to Self, the acclaimed podcast and weekly radio segment about the crossroads between technology and humanity in the digital age. The Senior Producer is in charge of the weekly production of the program.  A triple threat of producer, editor, and manager, this seasoned show runner will master all the moving parts of a content-rich weekly show.  That entails supervising the work of staff and per diem producers and the show’s engineer, ensuring the highest quality of every segment, and serving as a critical voice in the creative development of the show.  S/he reports to the Executive Producer.

     

    The successful candidate will be passionate about great writing and inspired by the challenge of crafting a unique radio voice for the host and managing editor, Manoush Zomorodi.  Wide experience in radio/podcasting and a deep knowledge of creative trends in the medium are a must, along with broad intellectual interests and superb organization.   The position demands extraordinary people skills – including tact and diplomacy as well as effective butt-kicking.  The Senior Producer’s ability to react and adapt as the program and the Note to Self/Manoush Zomorodi brand rapidly evolves will be critical to the position. 

    Responsibilities 
     

    • Oversee editorial planning of a weekly podcast program and website; manage staff and freelancer assignments; set and enforce deadlines for both long-lead and fast-turnaround content.
    • Lead development of ideas for Note to Self, consulting with host and Managing Editor Manoush Zomorodi and the executive producer
    • With broadcast engineer and other staff, imagine and execute sound design concepts.
    • Edit producers' work on interviews, stories, and other content; coordinate contributions of outside producers and editors; oversee the assembly of the show and all aspects of production. 
    • Oversees and executes quality bookings for the weekly program, live events and engagement projects
    • Guarantee the on-time, flawless delivery of audio to multiple platforms.
    • Work closely with Executive Producer on story selection.
    • Oversee internal and external communications.
    • Supervise staff and their ongoing professional development.
    • Manage team calendars
    • Supervise and at times, handle ISDN and studio bookings
    • Perform any and all production tasks as needed, including writing, editing, recording, show mixing, booking, and logistics.
    • Handle contracts and rights, and supervise other administrative aspects as needed.


    Qualifications
     

    • At least seven years’ experience in fast-paced, idea-driven media environments (broadcast or related)
    • Demonstrated success in leading a team and supervising content creation
    • Superb broadcast writing and editing skills, showing originality and humor
    • Experience working with talent, especially non-radio talent
    • Fluency in audio editing with ProTools, and knowledge of DAVID, CMS, and other systems for broadcast and digital delivery of audio
    • Superb organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
