    Department Overview

    Under the Radar with Callie Crossley is a one-hour, weekly radio public affairs program, produced by WGBH News. It is the only talk show in Greater Boston which curates news from local newspapers and online community outlets in Boston and around the region, highlighting stories that are unknown or little discussed. When the program does tackle stories that dominate the mainstream headlines, Under the Radar seeks viewpoints that are different and expansive from the prevailing narrative. The program's goal is to elicit the "I didn't know that" listener response. 
    Under the Radar with Callie Crossley’s mission is to present a wide spectrum of perspectives and voices offering expertise on the issues of the day, and contextual commentary about ongoing issues.

    The Associate Producer (AP) will work collaboratively with the Host to bring added value content to the show, helping to design editorial focus for each show within a journalistic framework. The AP will be responsible for handling the details of the show— helping to conceptualize shows and topics, researching topics, booking guests, and directing and packaging the show for air. In addition, the Associate Producer will manage the social media for the program: posting show links as needed, tweeting and posting for social media for the show, and monitoring tweets and Facebook posts. The AP will also ensure that the program’s podcast is prepared for the subscriber feed. In addition, the Associate Producer will recruit and supervise interns.

    The successful candidate must possess a strong knowledge of local news and opinion makers. He/she must have a minimum of 3 years experience as a radio producer with a journalism background. The candidate must be an excellent communicator, writer and interviewer, possess strong technical skills in digital editing (audio and video), and be proficient with the latest multimedia tools. The candidate should also have an understanding of HTML and experience using CMS platforms (WordPress and Drupal), Photoshop, and Final Cut Pro. 
    The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of independent work, but must also perform well in a collaborative environment. Working in tandem with the Host, the Associate Producer will maintain regular communication with the Host throughout the week, with frequent updates as the show comes together. This person should have a strong understanding of Under the Radar’s mission.
