    Position Overview

    Under the supervision of The World’s Managing Editor, the World Radio Producer is responsible for the production of Boston Calling for the BBC World Service. The weekly radio series, which is broadcast to a global audience, offers a glimpse of how the world looks through American eyes. It offers surprise and editorial insight about global affairs and thinking inside the U.S. The items in the series are selected from editions of The World. The Producer is responsible for selecting those items, writing scripts, overseeing mixing, editing and carrying out all aspects of production to ensure that the program is delivered in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of the BBC World Service. 

    The Producer is also responsible for producing the Boston Calling web pages at bbcworldservice.com. This involves sourcing and selecting appropriate rights cleared images, using Photoshop to size and watermark the images, writing headlines and other copy. The producer will also write social media posts for the content and upload to Social Flow. The producer is responsible for effectively and collaboratively communicating with radio and on-line teams in London. 

    On days when the producer is not working on Boston Calling they will undertake all aspects of production associated with The World. Working as part of a team, the Producer will originate story ideas, research, brief the host, produce studio interviews and mixes and edit audio for the radio broadcast. This is a job with demanding daily deadlines. The Producer may also be expected to report and voice their own radio pieces.

    Skills Required

    The successful candidate must have a minimum of 3 years experience as a radio producer, with extensive experience editing and mixing audio. The candidate must be an excellent writer and possess strong technical skills in digital editing. The producer must have experience creating web content and an understanding of copyright issues. Experience of living and working overseas is desirable, along with experience of producing editorial content for non-US audiences. The candidate must be self-motivated and capable of independent work but must also perform well in a collaborative environment.
