    Job description

    Foreign Policy is recruiting an experienced, web-savvy editor to join our leadership team. Candidates should be D.C.-based or willing to relocate. They should be comfortable with homepage management and have experience commissioning and editing smart, provocative, argumentative articles about international affairs and U.S. foreign policy in a range of formats: analysis, news, profiles, features, explainers, and interviews. We’re a collaborative team, so candidates need to work well with others. Applicants should be committed to FP’s mission—explaining the world to Washington and Washington to the world—and able to bring a keen sense of professionalism, urgency, and dedication to the job.

    Responsibilities

    • Prepare and manage homepage to insure it is newsy, compelling, relevant, and drives traffic
    • Commission and edit articles 
    • Top-edit
    • Write headlines
    • Serve as liaison between top editors and Washington editorial team
    • Assist in managing the editorial team
    • Help innovate and execute special projects
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    • A minimum of 5 years of experience with web journalism, including commissioning, line editing, and top editing
    • Experience curating a homepage and familiarity with current best practices
    • Excellent headline writing skills
    • Prior management experience
    • A demonstrated interest and understanding of global affairs
