The Philadelphia Inquirer is owned by the nonprofit Lenfest Institute for Journalism, and we’re at the center of the critical mission to create a lasting future for ambitious local journalism. Our fast-changing newsroom is committed to telling great stories and deepening our connection with the communities we serve.

This reporter, based in Philadelphia City Hall, will focus on the politics that animate the nation’s fifth-largest city and will have a leadership role in our coverage of the 2019 municipal election, in which the mayor is running for reelection and a record number of candidates are plotting campaigns for City Council seats. The campaign comes as Philadelphia faces decisions on critical issues of gentrification, entrenched poverty, income inequality, and taxation. Whoever takes on this challenge should have the ability to find the story behind the story and to place Philadelphia issues in the national context.
