KERA, the public broadcasting organization for Dallas/Fort Worth, is looking for an ambitious, energetic Daily News Editor. Serving the country’s fifth-largest media market, KERA reaches more than 2 million people weekly through KERA 90.1 FM, Triple-A music station KXT 91.7 FM, KERA TV and the websites kera.org, keranews.org, kxt.org and artandseek.org. The Daily News Editor will play a key role in the station’s award-winning multiplatform newsroom, which is part of The Texas Newsroom, a first-of-its-kind collaboration of stations across the state.

    POSITION SUMMARY

This full-time Daily News Editor will lead KERA’s newscast production, coordinating and editing daily radio newscasts, and will work with the Digital News Editor to coordinate and edit digital news content. This person will create content on digital and audio platforms, will plan coverage and will recruit and work with freelance reporters and producers. This also will be the primary KERA News point person on collaborations with other newsrooms and organizations.

The Daily News Editor will be KERA’s lead editor on Saturdays; the work week will be Tuesday through Saturday. Most of the KERA staff is working from home for the rest of 2020; this editor will move into the KERA office when the rest of the staff returns. This is a leadership-track position that intersects with folks across the KERA newsroom, across the station and across The Texas Newsroom. This will ultimately be a supervisory position, reporting to either the Vice President of News or the Managing Editor. If this editor doesn’t have supervisory experience, we’ll work to get them appropriate training; if they do have such experience, they’ll quickly move into a supervisory role.

The ideal candidate is a creative, detail-oriented newshound with strong copy editing and journalistic experience. This is a multiplatform position, so the candidate must have a passion for digital and audio journalism. This person will be audience-focused and data-driven, fluent in using social media and other digital tools to engage with listeners. And they will be a key driver in KERA’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.

The Daily News Editor is a dynamic team player who is comfortable making quick, efficient decisions in a fast-turnaround environment and can also help organize big-picture plans and projects. The ideal candidate is excited by the possibilities of public media and of the evolving media landscape in North Texas and beyond.
