Seeking a versatile video producer who can shoot, edit and produce engaging videos in a creative and cinematic style. This person will report to the video lead and work on our talented visuals team to create a wide mix of journalistically sound video content.

    Apply at https://www.advancelocal.com/careers/

One week you might be producing a video about a new food cart, holiday light display or a quirky local artist. Another week you could be camping in the snow while shooting our travel and outdoors series. The next week you could be editing protest videos, interviewing wildfire evacuees or producing a coronavirus explainer. We are looking for someone who enjoys variety, is skilled at juggling multiple projects, thrives in a fast-paced environment and is game for anything, including in-person breaking news coverage.

Note: This position will remain partially remote until it is safe to work from our downtown Portland office. Video shoots will take place in the field and editing will take place at home due to COVID-19 restrictions.

    • Produce, shoot and edit a mix of video content that vary in length and scope (everything from short breaking news video clips to 2-3 minute videos that can be produced in a couple days to longer form videos that could take a couple weeks)
    • Shoot and edit sponsored video series, including our Peak Northwest outdoors series and others that emerge
    • Help conceptualize new video series ideas as we expand our sponsored video partnerships
    • Regularly pitch video ideas based on local news and trends; capitalizing on high-value topics
    • Collaborate with print reporters to create videos that complement their stories
    • Quickly compile breaking news video found via wire, sourced from readers or collected out in the field

    • Experience responding in breaking news situations
    • Strong video editing skills that ensure videos are engaging and well-paced
    • Ability to collaborate on projects, but also work independently (comfortable shooting and editing solo)
    • Ability to frame and focus video story structure
    • Strong script writing skills for narrated videos
    • Understand how to edit videos for a social media-driven audience
    • Comfortable shooting video in the outdoors, on hikes, overnight camping trips, in snow
