KQED News is looking for a part-time staff Photographer to work 32 hours a week. The position requires a skilled and savvy journalist with expertise in shooting and editing photography or video across digital platforms.

This photographer should have a portfolio that demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of digital lighting and techniques, and a strong eye for storytelling. The ideal candidate is communicative, collaborative, extremely organized, and able to prioritize or problem solve under time constraints with grace and accuracy. They should be well accustomed to working for fast-paced publications and should want to thrive in an environment where flexibility and continuous learning are encouraged.

Duties include the shooting and editing of news stories, daily and longer term, in the field or in the office. This role may require travel and sometimes, travel on short notice. This photographer will also routinely set and execute shoots alone—with assignments coming from the newsroom as well as other content areas.

One of our core beliefs at KQED is that we are better together, and that we must commit to grow and improve each day, and hold ourselves accountable when we fall short of that commitment. When we do not stick to our values, our actions will disproportionately hurt the most marginalized people in society — including Black, Indigenous and all people of color, people with disabilities and LGBTQIA+ people. We believe that these communities must be centered in the work we do. We strongly encourage candidates from all marginalized communities to apply.
