Columbia College Chicago is an urban institution of more than 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students emphasizing arts, media, and communications in a liberal arts setting. The Department of Journalism seeks applications for a full-time tenured or tenure-track professor of journalism to begin Fall 2014.

    Job Summary

Our new colleague will teach core courses as well as specialty classes, and will be expected to innovate in teaching methods, curriculum and projects. He or she will enhance collaborations between the Journalism Department and others in the college as we increasingly become interdisciplinary in the academy and the profession.

The successful candidate will need to be both a leader and a collaborator, someone who can help our curriculum evolve while emphasizing the principles and practices of ethical, engaging journalism. We want someone with enthusiasm for dynamic pedagogy, a drive to stay current with emerging journalism practices, excitement about entrepreneurship, and a commitment to the bedrock of our field: accurate reporting and compelling storytelling.

    Preferred Qualifications

Primary qualifications include a successful track record of teaching at the college level and demonstrated multimedia experience in a professional news organization. The strongest candidates will be collegial and versatile, adept with technology in the service of good journalism, passionate about preparing the next generation of journalists for successful careers, astute and insightful about the future of journalism.

A master's degree or higher is essential.
