    Reporter I - (Trenton) - The Record has an opening for a Reporter I covering state government and politics in our Trenton Bureau. Duties include covering the state Supreme Court and the Appellate Division, the Attorney General’s Office, State Police, legislative hearings, news conferences, events and ongoing news issues related to state government. The successful candidate will write breaking news primarily for the web, feed bureau blogs and use social media. Also required are strong online and multimedia skills; good oral, written and PC skills; and the ability to regularly mine the beat and their sources for news. Some enterprise reporting also will be expected.  Candidates also must be accessible for assignments during and outside regular office hours.  Applicants must have at least two years of daily newspaper reporting experience, or equivalent.     Social Media Editor (Woodland Park) - NorthJersey.com is seeking a Social Media Editor to coordinate the social media efforts of NorthJersey.com, The Record and its 40+ weekly and community newspapers. Reporting to the Web Editor, the Social Media Editor will communicate best practices to journalists across the company and execute a strategy focused on engaging online readers, growing web traffic and encouraging quality back links. The Social Media Editor will inventory and monitor all existing social media accounts at NJMG and make recommendations to senior leadership on best practices in various scenarios, including breaking news and enterprise news situations. The right candidate will be adept at formulating a vision for NJMG's evolving social media needs on Facebook, Twitter, and emerging platforms, and be excellent at articulating this vision to key editors and senior leadership. The Social Media editor will be hands-on, posting directly to scores of NJMG social media accounts in addition to coordinating with others around the company doing the same. The Social Media Editor will write a large volume of short messages each week, promoting NJMG content and interacting with online readers using a informal, sometimes fun tone that is also journalistically responsible and neutral. Experience working in a digitally-driven newsroom is a must. Candidates must have at least two years of full-time experience working at news web site managing a homepage or main section and a working knowledge of HootSuite Pro, HTML, audio and video editing. They also should be experienced in using a Content Management System, Photoshop, e-mail blast tools, basic HTML and web analytics.     Reporter I – (Woodland Park) - The Features Department serving The Record and the Herald News has an opening for a full-time Reporter I. This reporter will produce engaging stories that explore a variety of topics, but generally concentrate on how health, fitness and food and their significance to North Jersey residents. In general, the reporters must initiate, research, report, interview and write news features on their beat and generate trend stories.

    Required skills include producing stories (especially health and nutrition ) that are easy to understand and help the reader understand an issue, writing on tight deadlines  in a critical and engaging manner, and identifying and/or taking a story in the news and making it relevant and engaging to North Jersey readers .

    The successful candidate must have at least two years of daily newspaper reporting experience, or equivalent.     Reporter II (Woodland Park) The Record has an opening for a full-time Reporter II to cover breaking news on the 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. shift. The ideal candidate should be able to juggle multiple story assignments, develop sources who are reticent to speak on the record, write quickly and clearly for the web, update news reports frequently and combine feeds from colleagues into coherent stories. The applicant also needs superb news judgment, the ability to work independently and a knack for staying composed under extreme pressure. A minimum of three years of daily reporting experience or its equivalent is required.
