    The Kaiser Family Foundation, a leader in health policy analysis, health journalism and communication, is dedicated to filling the need for trusted, independent information on the major health issues facing our nation and its people. Kaiser is a nonprofit, nonpartisan private operating foundation focusing on U.S. health care issues, as well as the U.S. role in global health policy.

    Kaiser Health News (KHN) is an editorially-independent program of the Kaiser Family Foundation. With staff and freelance reporters, columnists, editors, photographers, web producers and videographers, KHN is committed to in-depth reporting on health policy news. KHN provides this coverage on www.kaiserhealthnews.org as well as in partnership with other news organizations, including NPR, NBC, The Washington Post, USA Today, McClatchy, and a host of other newspapers. All material is provided free of charge. In addition to publishing in-depth articles on new developments in the health care system and on national and local health care initiatives and debates, KHN also produces the Kaiser Daily Health Policy Reports. For more than a decade, these reports have provided readers with daily updates on how the media are covering U.S. health care policy.

    KHN is planning a year-long project to significantly increase media coverage of health issues in California, specifically to cover state implementation of the health law and to document its effects on the uninsured.

    Position Summary: The Reporter / Producer will write and produce news and feature blog posts, stories, videos and slide shows about health policy developments. The Reporter will be asked to gather information and conduct interviews in Spanish. This position requires working remotely with KHN’s Washington D.C. newsroom. 

    Working closely with the KHN editorial team, the Reporter / Producer will need to be a self-starter who is detail-oriented, up-to-date on web publishing and the latest in audio-visual online tools.


    Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

    ·         Understand what’s happening in California health care and suggest multimedia items;

    ·         Reports, writes and produces multimedia elements for KHN and its partners;

    ·         Works with editors, reporters, interns and other KHN staff to prepare stories for posting.

    ·         Helps ensure website is up-to-date, executes publishing stories and features and maintains architecture of website;

    ·         Works closely with the editorial staff on display of KHN videos, photographs and slide shows on website;

    Minimum Qualifications:

    ·         Experience with content management systems and knowledge of HTML and blogging software;

    ·         Ability to conduct interviews in Spanish;

    ·         Photoshop experience undefined ability to create graphics/crop photos;

    ·         Knowledge of social media;

    ·         Video and audio producing/shooting/editing experience; and

    ·         Experience building audio slideshows and/or photo galleries.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    ·         Experience creating interactive graphics;

    ·         Previous work with an online news organization; and

    ·         Knowledge of the California media market.
