From Steven Davy, Web Editor of PRI's The World:

    Here's what I need:
    1. Strong video shooting and editing skills. I'll need to see clips.
    2. Someone who has worked overseas (Africa and India a huge bonus). Basically they need to be able to tap into a network of visual journalists to help me commission video projects.
    3. Comfortable with data and making infographics (this skill is would be awesome, but I know I'm also asking a lot).

The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by WGBH, the BBC World Service, and Public Radio International (PRI). The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe, developed specifically for an American audience. The World’s companion website, pri.org, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and pri.org use social media and other relevant tools to maximize user engagement and enhance the user experience.

The Digital Producer works as part of a 10-person team to commission and create explanatory videos, slideshows, animations, graphics, data visualizations, maps, polls and interactive elements for PRI and The World’s web and social properties. The Digital Producer will be central to 12 months of special coverage aimed at engaging millions of Americans in an examination of efforts around the world to improve the well-being of communities by raising the status of women. The Digital Producer will work closely with editors, reporters and social media journalists to define, create and edit visual elements to extend The World’s storytelling on that issue over the web and social networks.

The Digital Producer needs to have data and multimedia reporting experience, including experience shooting and editing videos and photos. The Digital Producer will need to identify, vet and clean data sources, create interactive and static graphics from data, produce explanatory videos and slideshows in collaboration with reporters and editors, find and obtain outside visuals to accompany stories, develop GIFs and other graphic elements for social posts, and work with independent photographers, videographers, animators and developers. The ideal candidate would have a portfolio of strong reporting work on complex issues, including a range of visual storytelling experience. This position is in Boston and reports to the Multimedia Editor of PRI.org

    Main duties:
    • Collaborate with editors, reporters and social media journalists to research and create short explanatory videos, slideshows, animations, graphics, data visualizations, maps, polls and interactive elements
    • Research, write and produce digital-only stories and blog posts with strong visual elements
    • Oversee and edit work by photographers, videographers and animators
    • Research and find visual elements to accompany stories, blogs and interviews from PRI shows and editorial partners
    • Create social posts to support visual stories
    • Create and post visual call-outs for audience participation for use on the web, email and social media
    • Track, analyze and report on the audience reach and engagement of visual storytelling elements and call-outs
