      About the position

      The Barbara and Dick Couch Fellowship for Innovation is a fellowship for recent graduates who aspire to a career in public media. The fellow will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of news reporting and audio production.

      The fellow will start in the News department, working alongside other members of the News team, honing reporting skills, producing daily stories as well as longer features, engaging our audience through social media, and adding digital elements to news stories.  The fellow will later join the Creative Production Unit, which produces the NHPR podcasts Outside/In, Civics 101, and Second Greatest Show on Earth. The fellow will work with other team members to generate show ideas and report, write, and edit audio stories, and to produce web versions of stories and engage audiences through social media.  

      The fellowship is a full-time, eight month position. Fellows receive a stipend of $20,000 plus benefits, including health insurance and paid vacation and holidays.

      We are New Hampshire's independent and trusted source for news and information, and the state's largest radio news service.  Based in Concord, the state's capital and political hub, NHPR's newsroom, digital team and original programs consistently earn national recognition for their in-depth reporting and production. NHPR is the winner of the 2015, 2017 and 2018 national Edward R. Murrow Award for overall excellence.

       

      Who Should Apply

      Ideal candidates are inspired by innovative storytelling and/or journalism through on-air and online media, aspire to a career in public media and have demonstrated commitment to their community.  Previous public media experience is not required.  The fellowship is open to applicants who completed their undergraduate or graduate degrees within the past three years.  A valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
