THE CITY (THECITY.nyc), an independent nonprofit news platform dedicated to serving the people of New York through hard-hitting reporting, is seeking a data reporter for a temporary engagement. The opening, which begins immediately, is anticipated to continue through mid-autumn 2020. The data reporter will:

• use public records, open data and other statistical sources to report news stories and investigations about New York City and its government; 
  
• collaborate with beat reporters
  
• produce data visualizations in partnership with THE CITY’s interactives/graphics producer and independently
  
• help maintain and advance the Coronavirus Tracker.
  

Must be proficient in Excel, a data visualization tool of choice (THE CITY uses Datawrapper) and R, Python or other programming language of choice, with a track record of high-impact accountability reporting. New York City or other local government coverage experience preferred.
