THE CITY (THECITY.nyc), an independent nonprofit news platform dedicated to serving the people of New York through hard-hitting journalism, is seeking a part-time researcher to help document, maintain and update THE CITY’s research hub for its 2021 election coverage.

Duties will include compiling and organizing material from candidate interviews, social media posts, statements, platforms and more.

We need an ace fact-checker adept at researching policies — including but not limited to criminal justice, education, housing, finance, transportation and more — and at tracking relevant legislative actions at city and state level.

We’re looking for someone who can commit to 18 to 20 hours a week through June, with the possibility of the gig extending in some form until early November.

The ideal candidate is a high-energy, highly disciplined, digitally savvy political journalism junkie who can work well with others in a (virtual, for now) newsroom filled with people passionate about the power and importance of local news.

    KEY CHARACTERISTICS

    • Excellent organizational skills and a fierce attention to detail
    • Strong writing and verbal communication skills
    • Proficiency with Google Suite

    PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum undergraduate degree from four-year college/university
    • Relevant work experience, preferably in journalism

THE CITY is committed to diversity and especially encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply. We offer equal opportunity employment regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability status, age, marital status, or protected veteran status.
