This year, we will host a conversation with Buzzfeed's Editor-in-Chief, Ben Smith and ABC News' Amna Nawaz as the moderator.

BUZZFEED'S BEN SMITH


Ben Smith is BuzzFeed’s Editor-in-Chief. Since joining the company in January 2012, Smith has built a newsroom of about 250 reporters and editors, led expansion of over 20 content verticals, and built teams across the world. Under his leadership, BuzzFeed’s coverage has grown to include politics, business, investigative reporting, longform journalism, and entertainment while growing the site’s traffic to over 200M monthly unique visitors. Smith was called "one of the most talented and admired scoop-mongers in the game" by The New Republic, named one of Fast Company’s "Most Creative People in Business," and featured as Fortune’s "40 Under 40" for his work at BuzzFeed.

Prior to BuzzFeed, Smith was senior political writer for Politico from 2007 to 2011. Before Politico, he wrote a column and a blog for the New York Daily News, started New York’s first political blog, The Politicker, for the New York Observer, as well as the political site, Room Eight, after working as City Hall Bureau Chief for the New York Sun.

Smith has written for publications including the Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Slate, The New York Post, and The New Republic. He was born and raised in Manhattan, and now lives in Brooklyn with his wife and three children.

ABC NEWS' AMNA NAWAZ


Amna Nawaz is a reporter and anchor at ABC News Digital. Previously, as Managing Editor of NBC News' Asian America vertical, she reported and edited stories on current events, culture, and community for the fastest-growing group in the U.S., and oversaw the creation and launch of the vertical - the first of its kind by any American network - in 2014, and grew it into the largest English-language Asian-American news source in the country. Nawaz also reported for all NBC News’ broadcast shows and MSNBC. 

Prior to this, Nawaz served as NBC News’ Correspondent/Bureau Chief in Islamabad, reporting from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, and the region for all NBC News and MSNBC platforms. She has been recognized with an Emmy award, multiple Emmy nominations, a National Headliner Award, a Society for Features Journalism award, and an International Reporting Fellowship from the Johns Hopkins University. Her exclusive reporting on drone attacks in Pakistan was featured in the UN Special Rapporteur's official report.  

Nawaz is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania and the London School of Economics.
