ProPublica is looking for a sharp-eyed, detail-oriented web producer to guide our daily art and production. You’ll be equal parts task minder and production designer.

Why you want this job: You will be at the very epicenter of one of the most exciting newsrooms in the country. You will develop a deep understanding of how ProPublica’s stories are reported and assembled, and be exposed to some of the best journalists on the planet. And most of all, every day you come into the office will be another chance to change the world.

A typical day at ProPublica might find you:

    • Coordinating with editors and reporters to keep the story schedule on track and up to date.
    • Formatting and posting the latest articles to propublica.org via our CMS.
    • Making photo and art selections to accompany feature articles.
    • Coordinating schedules with photographers and illustrators we commission.
    • Editing HTML and CSS to tweak layouts and features.

    Skills needed:

    • Solid, hand-coded HTML and CSS
    • Basic to intermediate Photoshop
    • A solid design eye

The ideal applicant is highly organized and detail-oriented. She cares deeply about editorial content and making the best selections possible to support the material we report. This is not a 9-5 job. Story go-live times range widely and sometimes require short bursts of late night and weekend work.

The position is based in our newsroom in New York. Telecommuting is not an option. Send applications to david.sleight@propublica.org. Be sure to include a link to your portfolio or work you feel is most relevant.

ProPublica is committed to diversity and especially encourages members of underrepresented communities to apply.
