    Performs teaching duties in area(s) of expertise.  Distinguished Lecturers are experienced practitioners or teachers who hold full-time, non-tenure track position with a maximum appointment period of seven years, subject to annual reappointment.

    The CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, founded in 2006, has quickly become nationally recognized for its excellence. The only publicly supported graduate journalism school in the northeastern U.S., it prepares students from diverse economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds to produce high-quality journalism. As the profession rapidly reinvents itself for the digital age, the CUNY J-School is at the forefront of equipping the next generation of journalists with the tools to find stories and tell them effectively - using print, broadcast, visual, interactive, and social media. The school offers three master's degree programs: a Master of Arts in Journalism, the nation's first M.A. in Entrepreneurial Journalism and the nation's first M.A. in Social Journalism.

    The Graduate School of Journalism is seeking to fill a full-time, non-tenure track position for a distinguished lecturer in the area of data journalism and multimedia storytelling. The distinguished lecturer will bring expertise on how the school can strengthen its various programs.

    Reporting to the Associate Dean, duties include but are not limited to:
    - Design and modify courses to diversify students' skill  sets that fit the contemporary standard.
    - Develop and maintain an active portfolio of innovative journalism projects.
    - Provide strong mentoring to students.
    - Bring enthusiasm and strong pedagogy to teaching.
    - Participate actively in public and professional service.

    Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree and a record of achievement in a profession or field of expertise related to teaching assignments.  Also required is the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    - A track record of producing interactive and multimedia stories
    - Strong belief in informing, engaging and fostering communities
    - Ability to analyze/develop metrics for effective community engagement strategies
    - Ability to perform various aspects of reporting with data, including production of custom data visualizations within a limited time-frame
    - A firm understanding of open-source development and the ability to explain complex data concepts with tools of his or her choosing. In the cover letter, the candidate should list preferred tools
    - Possess skills on a spectrum from back-end configuration and data analysis to front-end visualization
    - Possess skills that are current and competitive as the news industry rapidly changes
