Content & Programming Coordinator

We are looking for someone who will join Sense About Science USA, a New York-based non-profit that campaigns for better scientific discourse and data transparency. We are a small operation that launched a year ago and are expanding. Candidates for the position of Content & Programming Coordinator need to be self-starters and problem solvers, able to take charge on projects and muck in when tasks need all hands on deck. We want grit and creativity!

The position consists of equal amounts of:

• Administrative tasks (e.g. creation of databases, up-keep of webpage, organizing workshops, etc.)
• External communication (media relations, social media upkeep, building partnership, etc.)
• Creative output (writing original content, creating multimedia, providing strategy idea, etc.).
• There will be opportunities to create and run your own project that builds upon our mission.

Qualified candidates should have a degree or experience in science or scientific research; primary academic background in mathematics or statistics would be advantageous, as would experience in coding and data visualization, though not required. A graduate degree in journalism or equivalent experience is also preferable though not necessary; showing that you can translate complex research into vivid writing is crucial. Candidates must also be able to run a WordPress website. Social media smarts are essential.

Compensation will be commensurate with the experience and skills. Benefits include four weeks vacation plus sick leave.
