Working as part of a two-person team, in collaboration with the Senior Program Producer, the Assignment Editor will be jointly responsible for the running of The World’s planning desk and the management and supervision of staff and freelance reporters. The Assignment Editor will play a key role on The World’s leadership team, contributing to the development and production of the program. In addition to planning for the big stories, the Editor will spot trends and themes, and craft content sequences and series that are highlights of The World’s storytelling. The Editor will be equally comfortable with rapidly developing stories and projects inspired by imagination. The Editor will create and develop ambitious special projects, both in-house and as co-productions. The Assignment Editor will commission and edit reporters, build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and produce and report as required. The Editor will be an inspirational leader skilled at creatively managing resources to produce relevant, engaging, and distinct content.

The successful candidate should have 5 years experience in journalism; demonstrated experience in team leadership; a highly developed expertise in radio production and script editing; excellent writing and critical thinking skills, including the ability to write engagingly and creatively on deadline; strong familiarity with the breadth of global and domestic issues; experience with online content creation and engagement; and the ability to work both closely with others and independently.
