    Responsibilities:

    Specifically, the social media editor will:

     -- Work hand-in-hand with the McClatchy real-time team and the McClatchy News Network to identify trending topics and to maximize readership by pushing relevant stories out through social media;

    -- Post directly to newsroom Facebook pages or recommend stories for newsroom social media editors to post;

    -- Use social analytics to make decisions on what to post, and when;

    -- Create reports on social media performance, to use in analysis and share with readership team and newsrooms;

    -- Monitor newsroom performance, sharing both quantitative and qualitative results with readership team;

    -- Respond to requests for help from newsrooms and support teams;

    --  Assist in the supervision of the McClatchy Facebook push team;

    -- Collect social data needed to create individual plans for reporters;

    -- Do research needed to create slides with local data for newsroom visits;

    -- Oversee/guide newsrooms day-to-day on social best practices or questions; and

    -- Work hand-in-hand with our search team on content marketing plans for large news events.

    Washington DC office or Sacramento office and reports to the Social Media Director.

    Qualifications:

    Education:  College education required.

    Experience:  Must have  3-5 years professional experience in social media.

    Skills and knowledge needed:  Proven ability to write great headlines and share text that win high engagement on Facebook. A deep understanding of and experience with Facebook algorithms and practices. The ability to work with Facebook, Facebook Insights, Excel & Google sheets, PowerPoint & Google presentations, Omniture, Social Flow or other social media management tools for posting to multiple websites, Crowd Tangle, Chartbeat, other real-time tools for discovering trending stories/topics.

    Personal Attributes:  Energy, flexibility, and online smarts. The ability to monitor a vast amount of information for a wide audience, matched with discerning judgment about what to pursue.  Effective communication skills are essential and the ability to work well with all levels of staff.  The ability to execute quickly, creatively and well.
