    Description

WNYC Studios seeks a highly skilled and collaborative producer to work on pilots and new podcasts in our expanding portfolio of programming.

What you should possess: a passion for audio in all its forms; a sharp ear for sound and storytelling; a knack for wrangling and charming hosts and talent; a competitive spirit, and a nimble one; excellent editorial judgment; a willingness to experiment; a ton of ideas and the ability to let those ideas go when they don’t work; an appreciation for the art of editing and being edited; a sense of humor.

Our department functions like a little startup that has both the freedom to play and the support of an established, mission-driven organization populated with the most creative and pioneering audio producers in our industry. We are driven to create inclusive spaces and cultivate diverse voices that reflect the city we call home. And we work together, pitching in on each other’s projects and working across platforms. If you want consistency, and the security of producing one podcast with predictable deadlines, this isn’t the job for you. If your interests are wide ranging, you dig deep for the great stories and interviews, you thrive on variety and you enjoy everything from booking and scripting to cutting tape and host whispering, then this might be the job for you.

    Responsibilities:

-Lead and/or participate in the production of pilot projects, from development to execution

-Perform soup-to-nuts production tasks, including identifying and interviewing sources, booking, prepping hosts, writing scripts, researching and fact-checking, processing tape and making it sing, and managing talent

-Collaborate with outside contributors and other talent

-Record in the field and in studio; travel may be required

-With engineer and other staff, imagine and execute sound design concepts

-Work independently, while also pitching in on your fellow producers’ projects

-Generate ideas, across many different genres, that target broad and diverse new audiences

-Communicate constantly and clearly with other members of the team

-Manage multiple projects, deadlines and responsibilities at once, keeping EPs and others updated

-With social media, video, digital and marketing teams, create audio assets for web, Facebook, Twitter, etc. to help reach big and diverse audiences

-Guarantee the on-time, flawless delivery of audio to multiple platforms

    Qualifications

-At least three years’ experience producing audio

-Demonstrated success in the creation of superb content under pressure

-Experience with research, reporting, interviewing, storytelling, audio editing and sound design

-Fluency in audio editing with ProTools, and knowledge of DAVID, CMS, and other systems for broadcast and digital delivery of audio

-Top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, deadlines and time-management.

-Experience working with talent, especially talent with zero experience in radio

-Excellent communication skills, written and spoken

    -Ability to multitask with flair

-An independent work ethic combined with a love for and patience with the collaborative process

-Not too good or too fancy to pitch in at any point to support your peers

    -Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
