    The Takeaway is an award winning multi-platform news program co-produced by WNYC and PRI. It is successful and authoritative. It airs nationally across the United States with an audience in excess of two millionThe Takeaway’ is home to smart conversation and daily feeds curious minds. The show is hosted by John Hockenberry.

     

    The program brings together reporters from locations around the country and around world; its contributors are as diverse as its audience. Conversation is driven by the Takeaway’s on air and online community and gives voice to diverse perspectives in its reporting of local, national and international news.

     

    Producers are responsible for pitching, preparing and booking guests & stories for the program. They will also be expected to line produce and output edit the various feeds of the show. Producers will have exceptional editorial judgment and will have a minimum of three years’ experience working a national or network level. Creative skills are essential so too is a deep familiarity withoriginal news making content.  Producers work beyond the day to day and can identify issues and themes that concern America and Americans in the 21stCentury.

     

    Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    Producing across the top news of the day and dealing with those in power & influence

    Respond quickly during breaking news

    Script preparation and digital content for broadcast and on-line

    Effectively manage multiple tasksstories and the demands of daily news.

    Up to date with personal & professional contacts, including reporters and newsmakers

    Responsible for all aspects of radio production

    Can oversee research, recording, cutting and producing and reporting

    Ability to work extended hours as necessary and able to travel

    Comply with all NYPR and show policies and guidelines

    Work on other special projects and other duties as assigned

     

    Qualifications:

    At least five years’ broadcast experience, preferably in live radio

    Audio editing experience required; Cool Edit/Audacity, Easy Track and/or DAVID experience, ProTools, Audition etc.

    Proven track record meeting objectives under deadline pressure

    Fearless pursuit of top news stories

    Experience editing audio for air

    Strong writing skills; editor's eye for prepping content and shaping copy for hosts

    This position requires use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment; ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods

    Requires the intellectual and emotional depth, maturity, self-confidence and interpersonal skills to work effectively and/or interact with the other Takeaway staff, executives at NYPR, colleagues, vendors and guests as needed
