    Senior Editor, Radiolab's More Perfect

    Position Type

    Full-Time

    Hiring Manager

    Suzie Lechtenberg (Primary)

    Location

    New York

    Description

Radiolab is hiring a Senior Editor for its spinoff podcast, More Perfect. The show is about the Supreme Court. It is also about all of the things that divide us as a nation – race, class, gender, sex, money, power, religion, and so on. More Perfect seeks to explain how cases that are deliberated inside the rarefied world of the Supreme Court affect our lives outside of the court.

The Senior Editor will work with staff and contributors to develop ideas and refine narratives. When a story gets complicated or confusing, the Senior Editor will help guide the team out of the woods. This person will work closely with the Executive Producer to ensure the journalistic integrity of the program.

More Perfect is a small and highly collaborative team. Every staff member pitches in on every aspect of the show. The Senior Editor will work closely with producers and contributors on drafts of scripts, but they will also spend much of their time researching, identifying stories, pre-interviewing, interviewing, editing tape, and building out episodes.

    Ideal Candidate

You will be a stickler for details, creative and not afraid to be a little bit weird, incredibly organized, love deadlines, work hard, be rigorous in your journalism, and not be a jerk. Patience is required as we are a start-up. Significant experience in radio/podcasting is ideal; a deep knowledge of storytelling techniques is a must.

    Responsibilities

Work with producers and contributors to develop ideas into episodes.

Work with producers and contributors on drafts of episodes.

    Relentlessly experiment with story construction.

Participate in all stages of the production process, including research, interviewing, cutting tape, scripting, editing, mixing, and fact checking.

Work with huge amounts of tape and make it sing.

Record in the field and in the studio; travel may be required.

    Other responsibilities as needed.

    Qualifications

Must have a deep curiosity about the United States Supreme Court.

At least five years of experience in developing narrative and editing people’s work.

An excellent track record with interviewing, storytelling, and editing.

    Editorial decision-making experience.

Demonstrated success in the creation of superb content under pressure.

Excellence in audio editing and sound design.

Top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, and time-management.

Excellent communication skills, written and spoken.

Sense of humor and musicality are a plus.

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
