The School of Journalism at Northeastern University invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track, specializing in media innovation. This position reflects the School of Journalism’s commitment to understanding and enhancing the emerging news landscape and Northeastern’s commitment to educate students who will be leaders in print, video, audio, social media, data storytelling, community engagement, strategic communications and digital public relations.

As a growing program with a rapidly expanding graduate population and an increasing number of national media partnerships, we seek candidates who are interested and have demonstrated skills in digital storytelling, social media, and data. We seek to build on and expand our strengths in investigative and social justice reporting, data storytelling and public advocacy. As an urban campus in a major media hub we seek to engage our surrounding communities even as we expand our national and international footprint.

The individual filling this position will teach introductory and advanced courses in journalism and digital storytelling and develop interdisciplinary courses in various forms of media innovation.

Northeastern’s commitment to experiential learning provides students with co-op opportunities in the public, non-profit and private sectors, and enables them to use what they learn during their placements to deepen and enrich their classroom experience.

Successful candidates will hold a terminal degree (Master’s or Ph.D.) in journalism, media or a related field and will have a distinguished record of professional or academic excellence, marking them as leaders in their field. The successful candidate will also be able to articulate a strong research agenda. The anticipated start date is Fall 2017.
