    ProPublica Is Hiring a Reporter

    We are looking for an investigative reporter to join one of America’s most innovative newsrooms and take on stories that will surprise, probe deeply, test underlying assumptions and bring change.

    We’re looking for someone who has:

    A track record of aggressive, resourceful reporting and landing investigative scoops
    A gift for weaving revelatory reporting into authoritative, powerful narratives
    An openness to different kinds of storytelling, from traditional longreads to whatever new forms emerge on the social web
    A history of, and dedication to, collegiality and collaboration

    We know there are great candidates who would bring skills we haven’t thought of, and who won’t fit everything we've described above. If this is you, don’t hesitate to apply, and tell us about yourself.

    What you should send us:

    The most important part by far is your past work. Send us URLs to your best stuff.

    We’d also ask that you to submit a memo that describes what you’d most want to report on at ProPublica. Lay out a project you think we should do and tell us how you would execute that project. What might specific stories be? How should they be told? How would you imagine achieving impact? Show us how you think.

    Put all of that together — along with your resume, of course — and send it to reporting.jobs@propublica.org. Our preference is for the job to be based at our headquarters in New York.
