Skift, the best travel media company on the planet, is seeking a full-time Managing Editor in its New York City headquarters to oversee the day-to-day operations of all Skift editorial products, including our daily news coverage, daily and weekly newsletters, and editorial special projects.

The biggest CEOs, CMOs, and senior executives in online travel, hospitality, airlines, destinations, and related travel sectors depend on Skift; we are now *the* lingo in the business of travel.

This new position is a chance for you to work with the best editorial team in ALL of travel, the best boutique media editorial company on the planet (we really are!), and to help decipher and define the future of travel for our audience.

You will work with Skift reporters and editors based in Skift HQs and around the world.

You should have deep business and/or financial reporting and editing experience, and a demonstrated experience of managing editorial teams and daily workflow. Along with this you should have a good understanding of the macro trends in the business and technology world, and how that should influence and shape our coverage of the business of travel.

THIS IS NOT A WRITING POSITION.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage and oversee the daily publishing flow of Skift news, enforce deadlines, and own the edit team’s story-assignment budget.

    • Establish and maintain the editorial calendar in consultation with the internal teams.

    • Prepare daily newsletters — working with other editors — and collaborate on sector newsletters, including those covering airlines, loyalty, meetings, luxury, and more.

    • Oversee multimedia projects, including podcasts, webinars, conference calls, and video productions growing out of Skift’s expanding conference and events lineup.

    • Recruit freelancers and manage relationships, including deadlines and invoices.

    • Assist in coordination of annual Edit projects including print publications (3-4 a year), editorial coverage coming out of Skift Forums (3-5 a year), and other events.

    • While this key position will not include writing, the candidate will help elevate our editorial voice and enable our team of expert reporters and editors to produce their best work.

    • Assist the Editor-in-Chief and Executive Editor with the short- and long-term plans for editorial content.

    • Represent Skift at travel industry events, our own events, and media appearances.

    Requirements

    • NECESSARY: 7-10 years experience in business and financial reporting and editorial management. Consumer media experience will not be considered.

    • Demonstrated experience of managing editorial teams in the past, with concrete leadership abilities.

    • Experience managing and understanding email newsletters is a big plus.

    • Also a plus: a strong interest in the business of travel and restaurants.

    • Experience working with in-house editorial team as well as freelance contributors.

    • Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills.

    • Proficiency in WordPress, Photoshop, and Google Docs.

    • Excellent judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.

    • The Managing Editor must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and prioritize.

Must work in New York City at Skift headquarters.

NOTE: PLEASE APPLY WITH A COVER LETTER IN YOUR RESUME to jobs@skift.com

NOTE: Skift is an Affirmative Action employer which hopes to recruit and advance qualified minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and covered veterans. OUR GOAL FOR OUR TEAM AND CULTURE IS TO REFLECT THE DIVERSITY OF THE GLOBE OF TRAVELERS.
