Posting Job Description Qualifications: MINIMUM:

At least three years university study and/or journalism education experience; bachelor's degree preferred

Prior work experience: ten years journalism experience

Three+ years reporting/field producing experience

DESIRABLE:

15+ years journalism experience including producing TV newscasts, magazine shows or day-to-day management of a major daily newspaper/or news website

5+ years field newsgathering experience

2+ years as a Sr. Editorial Manager

Duties: Working with CNN's Senior Editorial Director, the Row Executive Editors are responsible for decisive editorial oversight of CNN's reporting, including day-to-day management of The Row, CNN's editorial oversight team. This is a senior editorial leadership position for all of CNN's platforms.

The Row Executive Editor is responsible for newsgroup-wide script and story approval, including complicated investigative scripts, documentaries and stories that include sensitive and controversial content. This position must ensure that stories meet high standards of story-telling, clarity, accuracy, quality, fairness, and balance, while avoiding problems of libel, defamation, and use infringement. A key part of the job is working to make sure completed stories meet platform/show needs and helps to determine appropriate language on sensitive issues for use across all platforms. This role is responsible for coordinating with the national and international desks to provide editorial management of major stories. This position is the key Row editorial liaison with Legal and Standards & Practices and acts as a single anonymous source approval authority. Additional responsibilities include the management of the Row team, including staff scheduling oversight and training in areas of special expertise.

Newsource Writer

Qualifications: Applicants must have at least two years of news writing experience. Ability to handle heavy script load is essential. Producing and copy-editing experience helpful. Affiliate station experience is a preferred, but not mandatory. Excellent customer service skills are a must. Knowledge of the iNews computer system is helpful.

Duties: A Newsource Writer is responsible for writing scripts (including lead-ins, vo's, tags, etc) for distribution to more than 800 domestic and more than 200 international Newsource affiliates. Attention to complete, accurate, and timely scripts is paramount. Requires special attention to affiliate embargoes and sourcing. Occasional opportunities to copy-edit and/or package produce may exist. This position requires interaction with affiliates as well as other departments. Occasional encoding of video is necessary. This position requires flexibility with schedule, and may require working weekends and various dayparts.
