    ART ASSISTANT: NYC. Serving as general assistant to the Art Department for Architectural Digest (Condé Nast), the Art Assistant liaises with the Photo Department to traffic artwork, prepares for film edit and layout review meetings, regularly updates layout mock-up boards, and executes basic Photoshop and InDesign requests as needed. He or she also offers secondary graphic support to other departments, including but not limited to preparing presentations for the Editor in Chief, watermarking images and creating PDFs for press or web usage, and more. Responsibilities also include various administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, organizing, ordering supplies, and miscellaneous errands as needed. Primary responsibilities: Liaise with photo department to traffic film between photo and art. Print film as it comes in. Prepare and put film out for edit meetings (including pulling selects from edit meetings on the image server, and filing away film after edit meetings; keep files organized and tidy). Create low-res jpegs of hi-res art (if photographer did not provide them); follow up to ensure we get hi-res art once layout is approved; make sure Production has files to send to Quad. Send out art department edit update e-mail; send out approved layout PDFs. Maintain inventory if film comes in for a future issue. Keep all issue mock-ups updated, including the Wall and the EIC’s issue book. Fulfill all PDF and watermarked image requests for press or web usage. Put together presentations for EIC. Design subscription cards, invitations, and miscellaneous supplementary/promotional material. Assist freelancers on translating print layouts to digital edition. Order all supplies for art department, including paper and printer toner supply; help keep department tidy. Desired skills and qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a strong design background, and 1-2 years of experience working with print and/or digital publications. He/she should have working knowledge of the Adobe suite (PhotoShop, InDesign, Illustrator, and DPS), and be comfortable working on a variety of media platforms. He/she should have outstanding organizational and time-management skills, and must exhibit good judgment, with the ability to prioritize and to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced working environment.
