    The New York reporter will write news and features across the publication’s various platforms, including the print magazine, which has been covering the market for more than 40 years, BusinessInsurance.com, which has been breaking news online for more than 10 years, and through its more recent vehicles, such as social media and video reports.

    The ideal candidate will have at least five years reporting experience as a financial journalist and will have a proven ability to work a beat and break news. Video experience would be an advantage, but this is primarily a writing position and strong writing skills are essential.

    The Columbus Dispatch editorial department is seeking a Web Producer to join its growing web team.  This position involves a combination of content and technical duties related to transforming the work of the Dispatch editorial staff for the Dispatch.com web site and related products including the mobile edition, phone apps, news feeds, e-mail newsletters and social media sites.

    Our Web Producers prepare material from The Dispatch staff for web use using a combination of proprietary software and common software applications as well as journalistic skills.  They generate story and photo/graphic files and modify stories, cutlines, photos and graphics as necessary.  They also work closely with newsroom staff to generate, edit and process video and audio reports and blogs while generating interactivity with web users by creating public comment areas, hosting online chats and developing reader-generated content.  The producers also identify other interactive possibilities and packages and gather and/or create original and supplementary information for electronic use.

    Candidates should have broad exposure to a traditional news environment including reporting, writing, copy editing, graphics and production, and must be proficient in use of the Internet. Position requires excellent spelling and grammar, and familiarity with subject areas of the traditional media – news, sports, business, features, etc. Must be proficient in both Macintosh and Windows platforms.  Intermediate-level knowledge of PhotoShop and Hyper Text Markup Language is required. Must be able to work at a fast pace with minimal supervision and work early morning, weekend and night shifts as assigned. Technical knowledge related to the Internet is a plus, as is familiarity with other electronic-delivery applications.

    Candidates should have a college degree in journalism, communications, English or related field plus three years’ experience in a content-production role at a daily newspaper or news/informational Web site.
